Peter Oosterhuis passes away at age 75 ⛳️

Peter Oosterhuis, the Charismatic Brit Who Conquered the Ryder CupPeter "Oosty" Oosterhuis, the beloved English golf analyst who spent over 15 years as the voice of the 17th hole at Augusta for CBS' Masters coverage, passed away at 75. But before his broadcasting days, Oosterhuis was a golfing force to be reckoned with:

  • 6-time Ryder Cup team member, first for Great Britain/Ireland and later Europe

  • Defeated legends like Arnold Palmer (twice), Johnny Miller and Gene Littler in singles matches

  • Dominated European Tour in the 70s, winning 4 straight Order of Merit titles (1971-74)

  • Lone PGA Tour win was the 1981 Canadian Open, edging out Nicklaus, Lietzke and North

With his stylish swing and charming British accent, Oosterhuis transitioned seamlessly into the broadcast booth after retiring in 1986. He worked for CBS from 1997 to 2014 before an early-onset Alzheimer's diagnosis forced him to step away.

With high stakes on the line, strong performances down the stretch will be crucial for these elite collegiate stars.

One of golf's most iconic player-caddie duos has officially parted ways, as Jim Furyk and veteran looper Mike "Fluff" Cowan have split after 25 years together that included Furyk's 2003 U.S. Open victory and record 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship. The 76-year-old Cowan, who has also caddied for Tiger Woods and Fred Couples, now works full-time for C.T. Pan after Furyk encouraged him to take that opportunity. While it's "hard to part ways after 25 years," the affable Cowan said "you've got to have the guts" to make tough decisions that allow you to "do what you enjoy."

Jason Kokrak and Graeme McDowell revealed they will attempt to qualify for both the U.S. Open and Open Championship through the respective qualifying events. However, Talor Gooch stated he will not try to qualify, opting against the traditional route like last year's U.S. Open. While 36 LIV players have entered U.S. Open qualifying, 11 others like Gooch have not, contrasting golf's merit-based system with some players' hopes for potential exemptions.
